Nothing completes a treat-yourself night in (or day in) like a face mask. When thinking about luxury or going to a spa, having a facial or getting a deep clean of your face’s pores are probably some of the first things that come to mind.
They’re also incredibly beneficial if you choose the right one for you!
Here are three DIY mask and scrub ideas for the face and neck and how to make them for yourself!
Quick Tips
There are some ingredients included in other face mask and scrub recipes out there that are harmful to your skin. When making face masks, please be careful about using:
- Apple cider vinegar
- Lemon juice
- Heavily pigmented spices
- Cinnamon
These are all great ingredients for food, but not so much for skin.
Greek Yogurt and Strawberries from brit.co
Greek yogurt and strawberries sound like a crazy combination, but yogurt and strawberries both have amazing effects on your skin.
Yogurt is an exfoliator, surprisingly enough, which means that it will go deep into your skin to clean out a majority of the dirt and grime that’s built up over time.
In addition, it’s also good at promoting moisture retention. Mature women will be especially interested in this since, as your body ages, your skin tends to retain less moisture on its own, which can lead to older-looking skin. So, it’s good to include something that encourages your skin to retain moisture and thus reduce some of those fine lines.
Fièra has many products that help your skin retain moisture, most notably our Apple Stem Cell Cream. Our cream uses natural, hydrative ingredients such as hemp oil to tighten and firm skin, leading to a youthful and dewy appearances. The Apple Stem Cell Cream makes a great daily supplement to this face mask!
Strawberries are high in vitamin C, which means they’ll combat free radicals and dark spots on your skin!
Honey
Just honey is enough on its own to be considered a beneficial face mask. It’s been used for centuries, since the times of Ancient Egypt.
Not only does it help to exfoliate and prevent acne breakouts (which is perfect for anyone experiencing menopausal acne), it also helps to soothe sunburns and even prevents skin infections.
Less important now but still handy to know is that honey doesn’t need any preservatives to keep it from spoiling, so, with proper storage, it should last for just about forever.
Just be sure to keep it in a cool, dark location, and keep its lid firmly sealed. If it crystallizes, just bathe the container in some moderately warm water.
A great compliment to a honey face mask is Fièra’s Multi-Effect Neck + Décolletage Cream. Our cream is now packaged in a new and improved jar to help get every bit of the product onto your skin, and it’s still the same, great product to help tighten skin in sensitive areas!
Sugar and Aloe Vera Scrub from Hello Glow
Aloe vera is a common skincare product due to its soothing qualities and antiinflammatory effects. It soothes redness and can leave your skin feeling smooth.
The best scrubs have fine particulates that exfoliate your skin just enough that they bring out any impurities but not so much that they cause any damage to your face. Super-fine sugar is different from your typical granulated sugar, so be sure you’re using the right kind!
Combine these two ingredients in a bowl until they resemble a fairly loose putty, and then rub the mixture into your skin. Leave it there for a few minutes before washing it off.
